Evocação + Amaterasu Series:
Juliana Matsumura incorporates in her work a constant concern with destructive processes, both natural and human (a distinction, which, in fact, she doesn’t do.) And even more, it makes us think about how we look at different types of destruction.  The paintings evoke not only destruction as something that transforms and creates matter, like an earthquake, but also more subtle types of destruction, such as soil erosion, aging and forgetfulness. What would it be like to evoke, from the form, the remaining matter of various destructive processes and invite it to inhabit images, traces and spaces?

Contaminação I Series:
After finding a box with several old postcards, I decided to deconstruct these urban spaces. The series explores the destruction and reconstruction of postcard images - consequently, it seeks to deconstruct the idea of reducing a place to a consumable image. The various spaces are contaminated in a continuous process of overlaing layers and colors.
